Site Name HistoryThe site is named after the Case family who acquired the core property for the botanical garden in 1863. James Case's daughter, Marian Roby Case, bequeathed the property to the Arnold Arboretum in 1942. The site is also named after its address.Historical NotesThe house was being built as a private residence in a field between Wellesley and Ash Streets when it was purchased by Marian Roby Case and moved across the street. She had it remodeled for use as a clubhouse at Hillcrest Farm, a farm/educational program for local boys. She later bequeathed the house to Harvard. Arnold Arboretum once used the house for plant propagation and for educational programs.
