Site Name HistoryThe site was named for its function.Historical NotesThe building originally on this site was constructed as a private house in 1856. In 1882 it underwent a renovation carried out by the Boston-based architecture firm Peabody & Stearns. It remained a private home until 1890 when the Colonial Club purchased it for use as a club house. It underwent multiple renovations by the architecture firms Alden & Harlow and Newhall & Blevins. The club house contained, among other amenities, a reading room and a library. Harvard purchased the club house in 1928 and later razed it in order to construct the Faculty Club.
