Site Name HistoryThe site is named after its address and function.Historical NotesElmwood and the Carriage House were built in 1767 for Thomas Oliver, who was to serve briefly as lieutenant governor of colonial Massachusetts. Harvard has owned the property since 1962 and its surroundings have been designated a National Historic Landmark District by the U.S. Department of Interior.
