Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Elizabeth Cary Agassiz (1822 – 1907), the co-founder and first president of Radcliffe College.Historical NotesAgassiz House was designed by A. W. Longfellow, Jr. of Boston and completed in 1904. The building was a gift to Radcliffe by friends and alumnae in honor of the eightieth birthday of president Agassiz. It was built as Radcliffe College's first student center and had a lunchroom in the basement, classrooms on the first floor, and a large student space and theater on the second floor.

Today the building serves the Radcliffe Institute and Harvard's Office for the Arts.
