Site Name HistoryThe site is named after its function.Historical NotesThe Legal Services Institute was created in 1979 in order to provide improved legal services to the urban poor. In 1983 the name was changed to the Legal Services Center and in 1991 a donation was made by the Boston-based law firm of Hale and Dorr to purchase and renovate the building the Center now occupies.
