Site Name HistoryThe site is named after its address.Historical NotesThe site now known as 160-164 Longwood Avenue was originally built as two structures, the Carlton Apartments in 1892 and the Westcourt Apartments in 1900. Both of the buildings were constructed by the Holmes Brothers, a family of architects and builders active in Boston during the late nineteenth century. According to building permits William Homes was the architect for the 160 Longwood address and John Holmes was the architect for the 164 Longwood address.

The buildings were acquired by Harvard in 1959.
