In 1877, Aspinwall & Lincoln Civil Engineers and Surveyors was founded in Boston by MIT graduates, Thomas Aspinwall and Edwin H. Lincoln. In 1926 the firm formed a partnership with William S. Crocker. In the 1930s the firm became known as William S. Crocker, Civil Engineer. That firm continued until 1983 when Gunther Greulich formed Gunther Engineering and acquired the archives of Aspinwall & Lincoln, William S. Crocker, and New England Survey Service (NESS).
In 1922, John F. Hennessy established a civil engineering practice in Brookline as extension of his family’s landscape contracting business, M.E. Hennessy Co. Inc. This firm was later acquired by Gunther Engineering in 1985.
In 1932, New England Survey Service, Inc. (NESS) founded by H.B. Ullian, also a graduate of MIT. This firm was later acquired by Gunther Engineering which was founded by Gunther Greulich in 1983.
In 1937, Llew, Win, Brent, and Jay Schofield establish Schofield Brothers survey firm in Framingham, Massachusetts. The firm was renamed Schofield Brothers of New England in 1992.
In 1973, Joseph Sullivan acquired MacCarthy & Sullivan Engineering, Inc. of Natick, Massachusetts. The firm was renamed Sullivan Surveying in 2012. Schofield Brothers acquired the firm in 2017.
In 2006, DGT, then called DGT Survey Group, acquired the assets and archives of Gunther Engineering and all its predecessor firms. In 2011, DGT acquired the assets and archives of Cullinan Engineering.
In 2015, DGT acquired Schofield Brothers of New England but continued to operate that portion of the company under the name, Schofield Brothers LLC. In 2018, DGT Survey Group renamed the firm to DGT Associates. In 2019, Schofield Brothers LLC ceased independent operation and is now known as DGT Associates.
