Henry A. S. Dearborn

Biographical InformationHenry Alexander Scammell Dearborn was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on March 3, 1783. He was a prominent politician and was elected Mayor of Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1846 and while in office designed and founded Forest Hills Cemetery. He also contributed to the design of Mount Auburn Cemetery and its superintendent's house in Cambridge, Massachusetts which was the first rural landscaped cemetery in the nation. He was the first President of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. He died in Portland, Maine in 1851 and is buried at Forest Hills Cemetery.Related Buildings / SitesReferences
