Walter Adolph Georg Gropius was a German-born, American-based architect active during the early Twentieth century. Gropius was the director of the Bauhaus school in Germany until he left Germany to go to England and eventually the United States near the beginning of the Second World War. Gropius moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1937 and became a professor of Architecture at Harvard. He also then went on to form The Architects Collaborative with some former students in 1946.
