Alfred Branch Harlow

Biographical InformationAlfred Branch Harlow was born in Middleborough, Massachusetts and studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After completing his studies he joined the Boston firm of Cabot & Chandler. In 1881 he joined the firm of McKim, Mead & White in New York City. His work with McKim, Mead & White eventually brought him back to Boston and in 1886 he formed a partnership A.W. Longfellow, Jr. a former colleague from Cabot & Chandler, called Longfellow, Alden & Harlow .

In 1891 Longfellow, Alden & Harlow received a commission with the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh which lead to Harlow leaving Boston. The partnership with Longfellow eventually dissolved and the firm continued as Alden & Harlow from 1896 until Alden’s death in 1908.
