Biography: John Henry Burgee was born in Chicago in 1933. He studied architecture at the University of Notre Dame and received his degree in 1956 he also received an honorary Doctor of Engineering in 1983 from the university. He worked with the firm C.F. Murphy Associates from 1958-1967. In 1967 he formed a partnership, Johnson/Burgee, with Philip Johnson.

Biography: Philip Johnson was a world-renowned American architect known for his modern style of architecture as well as his postmodern style. Johnson attended the Harvard Graduate School of Design and built his first building, located at 9 Ash Street in Cambridge, MA, in 1941. From then Johnson went on to have an extremely successful career designing many notable buildings all over the world ranging from skyscrapers, like 550 Madison Avenue located in New York, NY to homes like his own titled “The Glass House,” located in New Canaan, CT, to museums and cathedrals such as the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA, and the Miami Art Museum in Miami, FL. Johnson was also awarded the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1978 as well as the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1979.
