Site Name HistoryThe site is partially named for the parcel of land it is built on, The Rock of Dumbarton, granted by Queen Anne in 1702. Historically the property was also referred to as The Oaks. The site is also named for its address.Historical NotesPrior to the construction of the current building on this site in 1956 the parcel had an address of 3307 R. Street N.W. and was occupied by the mansion of John Marbury (1822-1905) who was a noted Georgetown businessman. In 1956 the firm of Arthur L. Anderson & Associates was commissioned to design a new office building for the Royal Typewriter Company and the Royal McBee Corporation. The construction cost for the new building was $500,000 and it received a certificate of merit for outstanding building design by the Citizens Association of Georgetown in 1957.Related Projects
