Site Name HistoryThe site is named for its relation to South House and its location in the south center of Radcliffe Quadrangle.Historical NotesIn August,1966 Ronald Gourley of Intergrated Design Services Group was selected to develop plans for improvements to existing houses once New House (later Currier House) was complete. While planning for South House (later named Cabot House) Gourley proposed a three to four story South House Center which would link Bertram Hall and Eliot Hall. South House Center would house the South House offices and dinning hall. The upper levels of South House Center would include an apartment for the house master’s family as well as faculty offices.
However, when Currier House was completed and students moved from the older dormitories, the space vacated by the students was converted into dining halls and offices. In addition, 107 Walker Street was converted in to a residence for the house master’s family. These changes eliminated the need for South House Center, and it was never built.
