Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Dudley Allen Sargent (1849-1924), a professor of physical training, the director of the Hemenway Gymnasium at Harvard from 1879-1919, and the president of the school starting in 1916.Historical NotesThe Sargent School of Physical Training trained teachers, initially only women, of physical education. It's original location was at 20 Church Street but in 1904, a new building was built at 8 Everett Street. The school was demolished in 1967 in preparation for the construction of the Everett Street Garage.Additional Information
