Site Name HistoryThe site was named for Robert Breck Brigham, a real estate developer, who provided the funding for the construction of the hospital. Historical NotesThe 115 bed Robert Breck Brigham Hospital was constructed in 1914 to be the first American teaching hospital established exclusively for the care of arthritis and rheumatic diseases. In 1917 the hospital was leased by the United States government to care for wounded military personnel returning from World War I.

The building, which is at the top of Mission Hill in Boston, is currently used by the New England Baptist Hospital who purchased the site in 1969.
