Site Name HistoryThe Class of 1874 Gate was named for the Harvard University Class of 1874 who provided the funds for its construction.Historical NotesThe Class of 1874 Gate was erected in 1900 from funds raised by the Class of 1874. The gate was one of three yard gates completed that year. Originally it opened to the entrance of Hollis Hall but due to the construction of Lionel Hall the main entrance to Hollis Hall was relocated and the Class of 1874 Gate was closed in 1926.
