Site Name HistoryThe Meyer Gate was named for George von Lengerke Meyer who provided the funds for its construction.Historical NotesThe Meyer Gate was erected in 1891 from funds provided by George von Lengerke Meyer who was a member of the class of 1879. The gate was the second yard gate constructed.

It is inscribed with the following: 79; George V. L. Meyer, Bostoniensis, Alumnus MDCCCLXXIX; Furchtlos und Treu (Fearless and True). The ironwork arch above the gate contains a lamp, a shield with "79" reflecting the class of 1879, and a script letter "M" for Meyer on either side of the shield.
