Site Name HistoryThe Class of 1880 Gate is named for the Harvard class which raised the funds for its construction.Historical NotesThe Class of 1880 Gate was erected in 1902 from funds raised by the Class of 1880 with Robert Bacon as the primary benefactor. His name along with that of Theodore Roosevelt are inscribed on tablets inserted into the face of the gate.

It is inscribed with the following: Class of 1880; Bacon; Roosevelt.
