Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Professor Theodore Lyman (1874-1954, A.B. 1897), professor of physics at Harvard by vote of the Corporation at the time of his retirement in 1947. It was formerly known as the Research Laboratory of Physics.Historical NotesLyman Laboratory was designed by the Boston firm of Coolidge Shepley Bulfinch and Abbott, and completed in 1931. It is occupied by Harvard's physics department. The construction was funded by the General Education Board, the Carnegie Corporation and funds raised by Theodore Lyman (A.B. 1897).
