Site Name HistoryThe site, formerly Buckingham House, was named after Harriet Dean Buckingham, Secretary of the College from 1911 to 1937. The site was renamed Wallach House in 2018 in honor of Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach who gave $10 million to the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Susan is a graduate of Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School and served on the final Radcliffe Board of Trustees before its merger with Harvard. She served as a Harvard overseer from 2005 to 2011 and received the Harvard Medal in 2012.Historical NotesWallach House was built in 1821 as a private residence and acquired by Radcliffe College in 1911. It has been used as a graduate dormitory, classroom space, and a center for research programs and undergraduate admissionts. Today it is used as office space.
