Site Name HistoryThe site is named after the previous owner, Lucia Kendall.Historical NotesKendall House, formerly located at 1563 Massachusetts Avenue, was purchased from Harvard Law School Funds to provide temporary space for seminary rooms, a dining hall, faculty meetings and faculty research. In 1926, Dean Roscoe Pound discovered a fire had started in an upper floor of the building. He immediately telephoned the fire department and then assisted in carrying valuable law books from the building. Once the books were removed, he sat down with other faculty members to eat lunch while the fire department put out the fire. In 1968 the house was razed to make way for Pound Hall.
