Site Name HistoryThe site is named for Sebastian S. Kresge (1867-1966), pioneering retailer who established the S.S. Kresge Foundation which funded the building's construction.Historical NotesThe Kresge Building was designed for the Harvard School of Public Health by Detroit-area architect William Henry Kessler and opened in 1970. Prior to the Kresge Building the site had at one time been occupied by the Collis P. Huntington Hospital for Cancer Research constructed in 1912 and designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge.
