Site Name HistoryThe site is named after the Newell Boat Club. The boat club was named after Marshall Newell (A.B. 1894) .Historical NotesNewell Boat House was opened in 1900. It replaced the original building that was built in 1899 and then was destroyed by a fire. It was designed by the Boston architecture firm of Peabody and Stearns and was a gift of the Harvard Club of New York.
