Site Name HistoryThe site is named after William "Bill" Walkers McCurdy, the head coach of Harvard men's track and field and cross country from 1952 to 1982.Historical NotesMcCurdy Track was built in 1983 close to the newly constructed Blodgett Pool, Bright Hockey Center, and Gordon Indoor Track Center with the intention of replacing two existing cinder tracks. The track used a new design that was intended minimize a runner’s contact on the surface and lengthen their strides. The construction was supported by donations from alumni, Friends of Harvard Track, and the Harvard Business School.
