Site Name HistoryThe site is named for Francis Calley Gray (1790-1856, A.B. 1809), Harvard benefactor and Fellow of the College from 1826 to 1836; John Chipman Gray (A.B. 1811), a member of the Board of Overseers from 1847 to 1854; and William Gray (A.B. 1829), a member of the Board of Overseers from 1866 until 1872.Historical NotesGrays Hall is a dormitory built by Harvard in 1863 from plans by Nathaniel Jeremiah Bradlee. The building forms the southern edge of the Old Yard. The first Harvard building constructed, "the Old College" stood near this site.
