Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Lionel de Jersey Harvard (A.B. 1915), a descendent of John Harvard who was killed in World War I in France.Historical NotesLionel Hall, added to Harvard Yard in 1925 in the Colonial Revival style to match its Colonial era neighbors, is a dormitory for first year students. It was designed for Harvard by the Boston firm of Coolidge, Shepley, Bulfinch, and Abbott. Beyond housing students the building was intended, as conceived by President Lowell, to cloister the yard. The building was a gift of Harvard President Abbott Lawrence Lowell and his wife.Additional InformationGeneral Information by and about Lionel Hall. Harvard University Archives HUB 1524.2
