Site Name HistoryThe site is named for Stephen Minot Weld (A.B. 1826), a member of Harvard's Board of Overseers and brother of William Fletcher Weld (1800-1881), Boston shipping magnate, investor and Harvard benefactor.Historical NotesWeld Hall was built in 1871, designed for Harvard by the firm of Ware and Van Brunt (William Robert Ware, A.B. 1852 and Henry Van Brunt, A.B. 1854) who also designed Memorial Hall. It is currently used as a dormitory for freshmen students. The building was a gift of William Fletcher Weld.Additional Information
