Site Name HistoryThe site is named after its function.Historical NotesThe Harvard Depository was built to house Harvard's overflow library collections including books, archival collections and other media. The facility provides a strictly regulated media preservation environment, inventory-tracking and retrieval of material. As of 2010, the Harvard Depository housed 45 percent of Harvard's collections as well as collections from other institutions.
