Site Name HistoryThe site is named after its function.Historical NotesThis building was the first structure designed expressly for the use of The Harvard School of Dental Medicine, which was the first dental school established in the United States in 1867.

The calssical revival-style building, built with university funds and contributions, originally held an infirmary, laboratories, clinical facilities, and lecture rooms. Like many of the neighboring medical buildings on Longwood Avenue it was built by the prolific Boston-based architecture firm of Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge.
