Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Nathaniel Southgate Shaler (1841–1906), a Harvard paleontologist and geologist who served as dean of Harvard's Lawrence Scientific School from 1891.Historical NotesThe Shaler Lane residential complex was built in 1927 for the Harvard Housing Trust, a private entity, and was originally built to meet the housing needs of married graduate students. The buildings were designed by Boston architects Kilham Hopkins and Greeley. The complex was acquired by Harvard University in 1963.
