It originally served as Harvard's business office.

By 1991, Lehamn Hall housed both the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Dudley House, which had previously been located on the block occupied by the Smith Campus Center.

In 2019, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Dudley House split becoming distinct entities once again. Lehman Hall now hosts The Student Center at Harvard Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS).

Lehman Hall sits on the site formerly occupied by Dane Hall, the first home of Harvard Law School, which was razed in 1918 after a fire.
