Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Henry Augustus Rowland, the first head of the American Physical Society.Historical NotesThe Rowland Institute’s red brick building at 100 Edwin H. Land Boulevard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was designed by the architect Hugh Stubbins to be both a functional laboratory and an inspiration to contemplation and creativity. The Institute was originally founded by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporation, in 1980.
