Site Name HistoryThe gate is named for the Class of 1857 which donated the funds for its construction.Historical NotesThe Class of 1857 Gate was erected in 1901 from funds raised by the class which was earliest of the classes to sponsor a yard gate. It is the only yard gate with three archways.It is inscribed with the following: Felices ter et emplius quos inrupta tenet copula nec malis ; 1857 ; Divolsus querimoniis uprema ciius solvernt amor die (Thrice happy and more are they whom an unbroken band unites, and whom no sundering of love by wretched quarrels shall separate before life’s dying day)Additional Information
