Site Name HistoryThe site is named after benefactors Carol K. Pforzheimer (1909-2010) and Carl H. Pforzheimer Jr. (1907-1996) as well as Daniel Henry Holmes (1816-1898), owner of a New Orleans department store and the father of Georgine Holmes Thomas who donated the majority of the funds for its construction.Historical NotesHolmes Hall was built in 1952, designed by Boston-area firm Maginnis and Walsh as a residence hall for Radcliffe College.
