Site Name HistoryThe site is named after Henry Lillie Pierce (1825 -1896), owner of the Dorchester (Boston) based Baker Chocolate Company, former mayor of Boston, member of the U.S. House of Representatives and Harvard benefactor.Historical NotesPierce Hall opened in 1901. It was built to a design by the Boston-based architecture firm Shaw and Hunnewell. During World War I the building housed the United States Naval Radio School. It is the administrative center of Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The building was funded by a bequest of Henry Lillie Pierce.
