Site Name HistoryThe site is named after the descendants of Michael Wigglesworth, a Puritan minister who attended Harvard College. His son, Edward Wigglesworth (ca. 1693-1765) was the first Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard and his grandson Edward Wigglesworth (1732-1794) was elected second Hollis Professor of Divinity on the death of his father in 1765.Historical NotesThe Wigglesworth Halls were completed in 1931, designed by Coolidge Shepley Bulfinch and Abbott in the Colonial Revival style. They form the southern edge of Harvard Yard along Massachusetts Avenue, and currently house first year students. Wigglesworth Halls are built upon the site of the former "Wigglesworth House" which was built in 1631 for the Rev. Thomas Hooker and later occupied by the Wigglesworth family and sold to Harvard in 1794. The original house was razed in 1843.Additional Information
